Vanishing Load — Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile Charges NTC With Complicity in Abetting a Cartelized Monopoly of Cellphone Business

24 June 2009

In today's hearing of the vanishing load scandal, Senator Juan Ponce Enrile went all out in declaring that the cellphone industry is a cartelized business and that government regulators are in collusion with industry players.

In berating officials of the NTC, he added that "they [meaning the cellphone companies] are exacting monopolized profits out of it and you're abetting it."

At one point in the hearing, the Senate president blurted out that if he were President of the Philippines, he would fire the NTC official for saying that they were powerless to act on complaints against the cellphone companies.

We second the motion!  I-fire na agad!
