Melissa Roxas Recounts Torture Ordeal Before the CHR, the Military Strongly Denies Any Involvement, the CHR Tends to Believe Her Story, July 23, 2009

23 July 2009

Fil-Am activist Melissa Roxas tearfully recounted her ordeal in the hands of suspected military men during today's hearing of her torture complaint before the Commission on Human Rights. Melissa was seized by her captors and torturers on May 19 in La Paz, Tarlac and released on May 25.

Col. Leonido Bongcawil, spokesman of the 7th Infantry Division which is based in Fort Ramon Magsaysay in Nueva Ecija vehemently denied his unit's complicity in the abduction and torture.

CHR Chief Atty. Leila De Lima, on the other hand, commented that Melissa's story is "too detailed, too vivid" for it to be the product of fabrication.
