Sulu Vice Gov. Lady Ann Sahidulla Gave P50K "Panigarilyo" to Vagni's Captors — Parad's Fear for His Wives Safety May Have Prompted Vagni's Release

13 July 2009

Lady Ann Sahidulla, Vice Governor of Sulu and Red Cross Chairman in Jolo, who negotiated the release last Sunday of Italian Red Cross staffer Eugenio Vagni with Abu Sayyaf commander Al Bader Parad said that she gave said P50,000 out of her own pocket as a gesture of goodwill to his captors.  "Panigarilyo," is what she said was the Abu Sayyaf's term for the money.

Sahidulla also said that Al Bader Parad's fear for the safety of her wives, Rowena "Honey" Aksan and Nursima "Simang" Annuden who were taken into custody by Marines last Tuesday, may have prompted Parad's decision to have Vagni released.
