Former US President Bill Clinton Arrives in North Korea to Negotiate Release of Journalists Euna Lee and Laura Ling

4 August 2009

Associated Press reports that former US President Bill Clinton has just landed in North Korea in a mission to secure the release of imprisoned journalists Euna Lee and Laura Ling.

AP quoted North Korea's state agency saying "Clinton landed in Pyongyang on Tuesday and was greeted at the airport by North Korean officials, including chief nuclear negotiator Kim Kye Gwan."  The report added that "a little girl presented a bouquet to Bill Clinton."

The female journalists were arrested last March and sentenced in June to 12 years imprisonment for entering North Korea illegally and for alleged "hostile acts."
