NTC and PNP Seize More Than 1,000 Voice-Altering Cellphones in Divisoria

26 August 2009

More than 1,000 cheap cellphones from China sold for just P2,500 apiece but having the special capability to alter the caller's voice were seized by a combined team from the NTC and PNP in a raid on a Divisoria mall.

NTC Director Delilah Deles said that the use of these kinds of cellphones is prohibited.  MPD Station 11 Commander Police Supt. Nestor Yabut disclosed that these kinds of cellphones have been used to make prank calls to police stations. He added that these cellphones can be used not only to make prank calls but also in the commission of crimes like kidnapping.
