28 August 2009

Stamps bearing pictures of the late President Cory Aquino, the Saint of Democracy, will be sold at P7 apiece starting on September 8.  That will be the eve of her 40th day death anniversary. One stamps shows her standing before a podium her right hand raised outstretched with her fingers flashing the Laban sign; the other is a portrait showing her smiling.

Cory's Funeral Cortege Now Approaching Manila Cathedral — Democracy's Enduring Icon Gets a Rousing Welcome in Ayala Avenue, Makati

3 August 2009 1:46pm

The funeral cortege bearing the remains of President Cory is approaching Manila Cathedral from a rousing welcome in Ayala Avenue, Makati after moving out of the De La Salle Greenhills stadium at past 11am this morning.

Tens of thousands of people lined the streets to show their love and respect for the late president as the convoy wound its way slowly through Ortigas, EDSA, Ayala Avenue, Buendia, South Superhighway, Quirino Avenue, Roxas Boulevard, Rizal Park and on to the Intramuros area where the Manila Cathedral is located.  As I write (1:59pm), the cortege is most probably approaching Roxas Boulevard.

The funeral cortege bearing the mortal remains of President Cory reached Manila Cathedral just before 4pm.

ABS-CBN has momentarily ended its coverage but ANC is still covering it live. Bishop Soc Villegas offered some words to welcome President Cory's remains.

The crowd is awaiting the start of the mass which will most probably be officiated by Bishop Soc Villegas.

Statement of Gratitude of Aquino Family for the Filipino People's Outpouring of Support & Prayers for Pres. Cory — Kris Aquino on SNN, July 2, 2009

CORY AQUINO WATCH
2 July 2009

Tonight at SNN, Kris Aquino read the Aquino family's statement of gratitude to the Filipino nation for the overwhelming expression of support and prayers for President Cory:
Our mother has been battling cancer for a year and a half.

Her current hospitalization was necessary because of her loss of appetite, caused by fluid build-up in the stomach area.

We remain in complete trust in God's infinite healing power.

Our family wishes to thank the Filipino people for their prayers and outpouring of love and concern for our mother.

She continues to be a woman of faith, a fighter, a source of hope and inspiration for all of us, not just her family but our entire nation as well.

Just like she has always taught us by her example, we entrust everything to God.
President Cory Aquino has been moved out of ICU and is now in a regular private room at the Makati Medical Center. Her condition is described as "stable" and her mental faculties appear to be still razor-sharp if we are to judge from what Kris shared with the nation in SNN tonight after reading the Aquino family statement — President Cory even advised her not to drink too much coffee.

In this GMA News report, you will see Kris Aquino arriving at the Makati Med yesterday night, July 1 and you will see her withdrawing money from an RCBC ATM inside Makati Med.

This will provide the backdrop for the story wherein Cory asked Kris why she had to withdraw money; the answer Kris gave was that so she could buy coffee to keep her awake while watching over her mother and it was then that Cory advised her not to drink too much coffee. I'm uploading the video at youtube and will post it her as soon as the upload finishes.

Imelda Marcos Prays for Cory Aquino in Mass for Her 80th Birthday

CORY AQUINO WATCH
2 July 2009

In what is probably the best piece of news about Mrs. Imelda Marcos for a long time, the former First Lady offered prayers in a mass for her 80th birthday for the seriously-ill President Cory Aquino whose battle against colon cancer has taken a turn for the worse.

At one point, Citizen Cory Aquino stood as the nemesis of Imelda Marcos' husband, former President Ferdinand Marcos who ruled the Philippines with an iron fist for most of twenty years.

More on this story in this 24 Oras report by Bernadette Reyes courtesy of GMANews.tv:

In a further gesture of reconciliation, Mrs. Marcos expressed her readiness to visit President Cory in the hospital if the Aquino family will give their permission.

Former Pres. Cory Aquino in Critical Condition at Makati Med, 9-Day Novena Mass for Her Recovery Starts, Kris Fed Her Ice Cream and Jello

CORY AQUINO WATCH
1 July 2009

Former President Cory Aquino is in critical condition at the Makati Medical Center.  Her entire family, including daughter Kris Aquino is keeping a tight, round-the-clock watch over her as her battle against colon cancer takes a turn for the worse. A 9-day novena mass for her recovery was held at the Greenbelt chapel attended by close friends and supporters of Mrs. Aquino.

TV Patrol reports that Mrs. Aquino has not been taking food for the past week but said that Kris Aquino was able to make her eat ice cream and jello.  Kris was absent from SNN last night and the reason is that she wants to give all her time to her mom.

Margie Juico, a close friend of the former president said that Cory wants to be with husband Ninoy but that she is doing all she can to stay for as long as possible with her children.

Korina Sanchez disclosed that Mrs. Aquino is at the top of their list of sponsors for their wedding.  She related how happy Mrs. Aquino was when she and Senator Mar Roxas last talked with her saying that the former President was elated when the Senator told  the nation during the first ANC Leadership Forum that she was the leader he admired the most.

We join the nation in praying for President Cory's speedy recovery.
