Charice Stages First Solo Concert "The Journey Begins" at SMX, Pays Tribute to Michael Jackson, Regine Got Sick and Was Unable to Come, June 27, 2009

Charice Pempengco staged her first solo concert yesterday at the SMX Center at the SM MOA Complex on Saturday night, June 27.  Thousands of people including many celebrities attended the concert.  Asia's Songbird and Charice's guest, Regine Velasquez, was unable to come because she reportedly got sick and was brought to the hospital.  Kuh Ledesma was there to take her place.

Charice did a duet of "You and Me Against the World" with her mom.  One of the show's highlight was Charice's tribute to fallen idol Michael Jackson.  Charice sang "You are Not Alone" and "Billie Jean" to the delight of her fans.  Charice disclosed in an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN's Karen Davila that she was supposed to guest in Michael Jackson's comeback performance in July; please see this earlier post, Charice Pempengco Was Supposed to Moonwalk, Sing Billie Jean with Michael Jackson Who Reportedly Said, "I Want this Kid" After Seeing Her on Youtube.

Charice Looks Back with SNN's Boy Abunda at a Time When People Said, "Walang Mararating 'Yan Kasi ... Wala Siyang Star Quality ... Talo Ka Pala, Eh!"

Charice Pempengco has had more than her share of heartaches and discouragements. Charice is a girl driven not only by ambition but by the drive to improve her family's station in life.  Along the way, she had to suffer other people's jeers and sneers.  She had to toughen herself against people who know nothing better than cut down those who are striving to achieve their dreams and build a better life for themselves. 

Interviewed by Boy Abunda in tonight's issue of Showbiz News Ngayon (SNN), Charice looks back at a time when people said, "Walang mararating 'yan, wala siyang star quality ... hindi siya maganda."  And at a time when people in her school said after she placed third in ABS-CBN's Little Big Star singing contest in 2005, "Talo ka pala eh!" 

I believe much of what she experienced played a significant role in putting Charice at the top of the world after dazzling such personalities as Ellen Degeneres, Oprah and Celine Dion with her incredible talent.  We can allow hurting words and insults to destroy us or, we can use them as stepping stones to greater achievement and that is precisely what Charice Pempengco did! 

A tearful Charice sang to Boy Abunda and to the  world what she said was her theme song with her mom Racquel, Maghintay Ka Lamang.
