David Archuleta and David Cook Back-to-Back Blockbuster Live in Manila Concert Makes Philippine Music History

17 May 2009

From the way they performed last night, about 8:30 to 11:00pm, Manila time, and the way tens of thousands of screaming young fans responded, David Cook and David Archuleta, stars of American Idol Season 7, have started a trend or tradition that will continue for a long time — the musical pilgrimage to the Philippines of American Idol winners.

I did not expect to be there yesterday because of a prior commitment but when I got off earlier than expected, I headed straight to the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds, got a ticket into one of the standing only sections and on to Philippine music history.

David Archuleta started the show with one of his hit songs, Touch My Hand, followed by other songs in his album and, of course, his two big hits, A Little Too Not Over You and Crush which he sang in his Sis and Eat Bulaga guestings.

This is GMA 7's news report of the event courtesy of GMAnews.tv:

I tried to upload to youtube very early  this morning (I started this post at 3:10a.m.) the video clip I took of David A's performance of To Be With You (one of several I took) but that was unsuccessful and I gave up finishing the post at that time.  I'm trying to do the upload again (it's painfully progress and it's still in progress - it's now 1:00p.m.).

My upload is now finished (a little past 1 pm), here it is (my apologies for the quality of the video, I was really unprepared to cover this event). You'll see much better videos elsewhere especially those that are taken up close but I guess this one shows you a little of the view  "from the back."

After David Archuleta finished his segment of the concert, the audience had to wait for about twenty minutes. David Cook's appearance was preceded by a fireworks presentation.

Please bear with me; i'm still working on this post.  I'll begin the upload to youtube of the David Cook video clip in a few minutes.

In the meantime, here's a video of David Archuleta's A Little Not Too Over You straight from AOL music:

David Archuleta - Regine Velasquez Face Off Will Have to Wait (Magkaka-Concert 'To, Kutob Ko Lang)

14 May 2009

That dream meeting between fan David Archuleta and idol Regine Velasquez will have to wait. When informed that the American idol runner up wanted to meet her, Regine said she was flattered but expressed regret that it won't happen now because she has to leave tonight (Wednesday, May 13) for the second part of her concert with Pops Fernandez, Kuh Ledesma and Zsa Zsa Padilla.

Here's that video clip showing the interview with Regine from GMAnews.tv:

David Archuleta meanwhile went on a mall tour to promote his concert with David Cook on Saturday, May 16, at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds.  This video clip show him telling his fans, "Mahal kita!"

Archuleta's unmistakable appeal is his boyish enthusiasm, more like an adoring fan than the idol he has become.

And, this is a bit off-topic but while searching youtube for what Regine Velasquez song may have caught David Archuleta's fancy, I came across this blockbuster rendition of Lupang Hinirang by Asia's Song Bird in one of Manny Pacquiao's earlier fights. Time to get patriotic, ladies and gentlemen ... here is Miss Regine Velasquez with our national anthem:

Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!  Mabuhay ang Pinoy!

David Cook and David Archuleta are Now in the Philippines for their May 16 Back-to-Back Concert at the SM MOA Concert Grounds

13 May 2009

David Cook and David Archuleta arrived separately in Manila on Tuesday, May 12, for their one night back-to-back concert on May 16, 8pm at the Concert Grounds of the SM Mall of Asia. Cook was American Idol Season 7 grand winner while Archuleta was the runner-up.

Here are the video clips of their arrival courtesy of GMAnews.tv:

Both Cook and Archuleta, who were met at the NAIA by Fearless Productions head Jomari Yllana, producer of the event, expressed excitement at their Manila visit and looked forward to their concert on Saturday.  The two idols are expected to hold a press conference on May 14, Thursday and are also scheduled to do TV guestings at GMA-7's Sis and at Eat Bulaga! on the same day.

Jomari is saying, in an article attributed to the controversial Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP), that the contract with the two Davids is a "package deal" and that he is not aware of the talent fee sharing between the two or of their managers.
