'Yes, you'll make it. And if you don't, I'll go with you." — Ryan O'Neal to Cancer-Stricken Sweetheart Farrah Fawcett (With CBS News Video)

10 May 2009

The one great love of his life is slipping away and Ryan O'Neal can hardly bear the pain of seeing Farrah Fawcett go through what may probably be the last moments of her life.

The story of Farrah's battle with cancer that has spread through her body is told in an upcoming two-hour NBC documentary that will air on Friday, May 15.

Said Ryan O'Neal in the People interview, "A week ago Farrah said to me, 'Am I going to make it?' I said, 'Yes, you'll make it.  And if you don't, I'll go with you.'"  Lines seemingly out of a tragic movie except that it's being played out in real life:
A particularly cruel aspect of the disease is that Fawcett has now lost her iconic golden tresses. "The hair is gone," says O'Neal. "Her famous hair. I have it at home. She didn't care. I rub her head. It's kind of fun, actually, this great, tiny little head. How she carried all that hair I'll never know. She doesn't have a vanity about it."

For now, O'Neal struggles to keep hope alive and to avoid facing the future without the love of his life. "I can't hear a song, I can't pass places that we were together, without being stabbed in the heart," he says. "A week ago Farrah said to me, 'Am I going to make it?' I said, 'Yes, you'll make it. And if you don't, I'll go with you.'

"Farrah has never, ever talked about how unfair it is," concludes O'Neal. "But I've thought about it. She may have thought to herself that she had been chosen to do this, that some higher power had put her in this situation. Because then there would be something positive to come out of it. And maybe that's true. But I'm just not so sure it's something positive for Farrah."

The interview's article is here at People.com.  This is the link to the CBS news video when she was first diagnosed with cancer in 2006.

Below is the video of the Charlie's Angels in a tribute to Aaron Spelling and the one after that is their reunion at the 2006 Emmy Awards.

Here from youtube.com is a Farrah Fawcett interview by Charles Grodin when she was much healthier:

Although she became really famous with Charlie's Angels where she co-starred with Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson, I remember first seeing Farrah Fawcet in a guest appearance in Lee Majors' Six Million Dollar Man series.

We join Farrah Fawcett's millions of fans around the world in praying for a miracle in her life.

Save the Life of Cecilia Alcaraz — GMA 7's OFW Diaries Feature Beleaguered Filipina Facing Life Imprisonment in Taiwan

OFW Watch

9 May 2009

A frantic effort is now underway to save the life of jailed Filipina OFW Cecilia Alcaraz who is in a Taiwanese jail allegedly for killing Taiwanese national Chiu Mei-Yun in September 2007. She was originally sentenced to death by firing squad but the Taiwanese appeals court has recently commuted it to life imprisonment after considering her appeal.

GMA 7's OFW Diaries featured the story of Cecilia Alcaraz last night.

A Walk for Life was staged on May 5 to dramatize the effort to save Cecilia Alcaraz:

This is a related article on Cecilia Alcaraz:

Huwag po nating pabayaan ang mga kababayan nating nakakulong nang walang kalaban-laban sa ibang bansa.  Let's pray for Cecilia Alcaraz' eventual release and let's do whatever else we can to help her and her family.

This blog also featured another jailed OFW, Dondon Lanuza in Join the Global Bayanihan to Save the Life and Help the Family of Jailed OFW Dondon Lanuza last April 27, 2009.

Join the Global Bayanihan to Save the Life and Help the Family of Jailed OFW Dondon Lanuza

27 April 2009

There is an ongoing bayanihan to save the life of one of our kababayan who is jailed in Dammam, Saudi Arabia and is actually awaiting execution in death row. His name, Dondon Lanuza.  Dondon was meted the death sentence reportedly for killing a Saudi national on August 15, 2000.

Using a Facebook account, Dondon sought the help of fellow Filipinos through the Internet with this desperate plea:

"I'm begging you all not to leave me alone in this fight."

Another Filipino OFW, Reggie Jose, who learned of Dondon's plight launched a Facebook campaign to help him in all ways possible -- to help his family and raise blood money to secure his release or maybe, even a commutation of Dondon's death sentence.

In the meantime, Migrante Saudi Arabia has had this message from Dondon posted in its website for more than a year now, since April 23, 2008.  In it, he appeals for help not only for himself but for his two kids:
To Whom it May Concern

I'm so sorry for disturbance... Im begging your kindness.. PLEASE HELP... I would want to follow-up my Appeal to anyone...

PLEASE HELP US! Utang na loob, for God's sake.. PLEASE RESCUE MY FAMILY FROM HUNGER.....

Umaasa po ako sa pagtugon sa aking hinaing... PARANG AWA NA PO!! Attached existing file: I would like to request from your kindness some financial assistance which im having so difficulty of soliciting from others. I've been confined here in Dammam Central Jail, Saudi Arabia since August year 2000 and my resources has all turned their backs on me even my family, closest and considered friends which has helped me for the past years.

They cannot be blamed for they also have their own families to support of course... I decided to appeal to you as a Brother to facilitate my needs and at the same time to finance some of my families personal needs... Any substantial amount would really be a big help for me and my wife who is in really dire straits as of the moment...

Your kind help and utmost attention regarding this matter would really be highly appreciated... May Almighty God continue to bless you and your family...

Brotherly yours,

Rodelio 'Don2' and Meribeth Lanuza

Through Migrante's intercession and Reggie's  Facebook campaign, PGMA has been moved, according to the DFA, to write a letter asking Saudi Prince Mohammad Bin Fadh to spare Dondon's life. But this is definitely not enough as the government can take more active efforts to help Dondon and other OFWs who face similar desperate situations.

For those of us who enjoy our liberty, who can move about and can still take care of our families, please take a moment off your precious time to think of Dondon and his family.

God can save Dondon's life but we have to do our share to make it happen.

Lalaban tayo!

Mabuhay ang ating mga OFW! Mabuhay ang Pinoy!

Let's pray that God demonstrates His tender mercy and his boundless power in the life of Dondon Lanuza.

To God be the glory!
