Roger Federer needed a final set lasting one hour and 35 minutes to beat a persistent Andy Roddick 5-7, 7-6, 7-6, 3-6, 16-14 to win the 2009 men's singles championship at Wimbledon and earn his 15th Grand Slam titles breaking the previous record held by Pete Sampras. This brings to six Federer's singles championships at Wimbledon, just one short of the record held also by Pete Sampras.
Roddick gave it all he's got but against the greatest tennis player who ever lived playing near the top of his game, his effort would fall short.
The match was viewed by some of tennis' all-time greats including Pete Sampras, Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe.
